What does Fouta mean?
Foutas are lightweight cotton towels traditionally used in hammams. Made in Tunisia for generations, they are often woven by local artisans. They are also known as hammam towels or peshtemal in Turkey, and are used to cover the body, dry off, or even sit on during moments of relaxation in the hammam.
What is special about a fouta?
The cotton used in a fouta is made of long fibers, making it both durable and soft without being bulky. Unlike terry cloth, which can become rough after washing, a fouta generally gets softer with each wash. It dries quickly and is highly absorbent thanks to its lightweight nature.
How to use a fouta?
Whether for everyday use or travel, the fouta is a versatile accessory: sports, travel, gym, sauna, boat… It has become very popular at the beach: simple, chic, and practical. It can also be used as a sarong, shawl, tablecloth, blanket, curtain, bedspread, sofa throw, etc.
How do you wash a fouta?
Wash your fouta in the washing machine at 30°C. After washing, let it air dry. We do not recommend tumble drying, as the heat can damage the cotton fibers. Also avoid harsh chemicals.
What is a fouta made of?
The foutas are made from 100% natural cotton, ethically woven in Tunisia. The cotton used is of superior quality, with extra-long fibers: fewer joins, stronger and smoother threads, and a more pleasant feel.
What are the dimensions of a classic fouta?
Foutas for the hammam or beach typically measure 200 x 100 cm with a weight of approximately 200 g/m² , allowing them to cover the body while remaining soft and supple. XXL foutas, often used by several people on the beach or at home (as bedspreads, sofa throws, or large tablecloths), measure 200 x 300 cm . Large "couple" foutas generally measure 200 x 200 cm .
How long does a fouta last?
A fouta can last for years while retaining its strength and absorbency, often longer than a terry towel. To optimize absorbency and softness, we recommend washing it in cold water before first use.
